A Friendly Encounter with the Ohio State Highway Patrol at HOLA Ohio.

Painesville, Ohio – As every Thursday, the students of the ESL (English as a Second Language) program arrived at our HOLA Ohio Center, but this time, they were in for a special class. Along with the usual English lessons, we had the honor of welcoming members of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), who delivered a fun and informative session on the traffic regulations that every driver should know.

The officers not only shared important traffic rules but did so with a lot of humor, creating an atmosphere of trust and active participation. The students laughed, participated in mock traffic scenarios, and even practiced typical dialogues that could occur during a traffic stop with an officer.

The purpose of this meeting was to educate participants on the proper procedures during a traffic stop and to address any doubts or concerns they might have. The officers went from table to table, helping students improve their English while practicing real-life scenarios, such as what to say if a traffic officer pulls them over.

One of the most relevant topics was the language barrier that our Latino community often faces. The OSHP officers shared some useful resources that can be used during a minor traffic violation, such as Google Translate or a telephone translation line. However, they clarified that if the situation is more serious, the officer must first follow procedure before resorting to translation.

“We want to make it clear that in the United States, we are here to help you,” was one of the most important messages the officers shared with the attendees.

This meeting not only provided valuable information for the students but also fostered a sense of community and mutual understanding between the participants and law enforcement officers.

Un Encuentro Amigable con la Ohio State Highway Patrol en HOLA Ohio

Painesville, Ohio- Como cada jueves, los estudiantes del programa de ESL (Inglés como Segundo Idioma) llegaron a nuestras instalaciones en el Centro HOLA Ohio, pero esta vez les esperaba una clase muy especial. Junto con las lecciones habituales de inglés, tuvimos el honor de recibir a los miembros de la Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), quienes impartieron una sesión divertida e informativa sobre las normativas viales que todo conductor debe conocer.

Los oficiales no solo compartieron importantes reglas de tránsito, sino que lo hicieron con mucho humor, lo que generó un ambiente de confianza y participación activa. Los estudiantes rieron, participaron en simulacros de situaciones de tráfico e incluso practicaron diálogos típicos que podrían ocurrir durante una parada de tráfico con un oficial.

El propósito de esta reunión fue educar a los participantes sobre los procedimientos adecuados durante una detención de tráfico y aclarar cualquier duda o preocupación que pudieran tener. Los oficiales pasaron de mesa en mesa, ayudando a los estudiantes a mejorar su inglés mientras practicaban situaciones reales, como qué decir si un oficial de tráfico los detiene.

Uno de los temas más relevantes fue la barrera del idioma que muchas veces enfrenta nuestra comunidad latina. Los oficiales de OSHP compartieron algunos recursos útiles que se pueden utilizar durante una violación de tráfico leve, como Google Translate o una línea telefónica de traducción. Sin embargo, aclararon que si el caso es más grave, el oficial debe seguir primero su procedimiento antes de recurrir a una traducción.

“Queremos que quede claro que, en los Estados Unidos, estamos aquí para ayudarte”, fue uno de los mensajes más importantes que los oficiales compartieron con los asistentes.

Este encuentro no sólo proporcionó información valiosa para los estudiantes, sino que también fomentó un sentido de comunidad y entendimiento mutuo entre los participantes y los oficiales de la ley.
