HOLA Ohio’s "Counting on a Bright Future" Math and Science Tutoring Program is designed to help students, ages 8 to 14, strengthen their skills in math and science while sparking an interest in STEM careers. Through dynamic activities and experiments, students explore these subjects in a fun and engaging way. Sessions take place in the afternoons at the HOLA Ohio Center and are supported by a dedicated team of volunteers who are passionate about helping students reach their full potential.

HOLA Ohio provides all materials free of charge, as well as dinner for students and their families, as well as volunteers during each session. The program, which started in Spring 2023, has grown steadily and is currently in its third edition. We are accepting volunteers and donations to support this initiative. Currently, registration is closed for Fall 2024, but please check back for future sessions.

Summer Reading Program

Read in Summer and Excel (RISE), HOLA Ohio's summer reading program, is designed for students ages 6 to 12, and has been one of the center’s longest-running education initiatives, focusing on improving reading comprehension and writing skills while fostering a love for books. Each summer, the program has expanded to include more students, activities, and tutors. In 2024, we even hosted a Writing Contest where participants could submit their creations, with prizes and certificates awarded.

In Summer 2024, we saw an increase in participation, with an average of 36 students per session. While this program is currently  not accepting new registrations until summer of 2025, we are always in need of volunteers and donations to continue its success in the coming years.

Pioneers in STEM

The Pioneers in STEM program is tailored for high school Latina students (ages 14 to 18) and aims to introduce them to STEM career opportunities. Through four sessions at the HOLA Ohio Center and 2 field trips, including a visit to Cleveland, students participate in workshops, hear from guest speakers, and receive professional mentoring about STEM careers, university options, and scholarships.

The first cohort took place in Spring 2024, with over 40 participants. Our next edition is scheduled for October 2024. Registration is currently open. We encourage volunteers with STEM backgrounds and those who wish to donate to support this impactful program.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Program for Adults: On-the-Job and Daily Life English

HOLA Ohio’s Adult English Program has long been in high demand, and we are excited to offer this opportunity for the first time in September 2024. This program is designed for adults looking to improve their English language skills, which are crucial for both daily life and the workplace.

The program's first session is scheduled to run for 10 weeks, from September to November, with the goal of empowering our community by breaking down the language barriers that many face. Participants will practice grammar, vocabulary, conversation skills, and writing through interactive lessons, all with the support of a dedicated team of volunteers. Our aim is for this pioneering group to gain the confidence needed to communicate more effectively in their daily lives and workplaces, opening up new job opportunities and improving overall communication.

The classes are held in the evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, making it accessible for working adults. Due to high demand, we currently have limited capacity and a waiting list for this session.

We are actively seeking volunteers to help support the sessions, as well as donations to ensure we can continue offering this program and expanding it in the future. If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering or donating, please call our office Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm for more information.
